AI tools for dental practices in Canada: a category overview

AI tools for dental practices fall into four broad groups: AI receptionists that answer calls and messages, voice tools that turn chairside speech into clinical notes, AI features built into practice management systems, and assistants that prepare work across the practice for people to approve. The right choice depends on the job you want help with, the practice management system you use, and whether you need French and Canadian data handling. This overview lists what each vendor says on its own site, checked on 22 October 2026.

We make Cognizdent, one of the tools in this space, so read this with that in mind. To keep it fair, tools are listed alphabetically within each category, every description comes from the vendor's own public page, and nobody is ranked, including us. Products change often, so check the source links before you decide.

AI receptionists

AI receptionists answer the phone and messages for the clinic. The main differences are which practice management systems they can book into, which languages they handle, and when they hand a conversation to a person.

Clinical voice notes and charting

Many vendor pages in this group are written for the United States and mention HIPAA or ADA codes; Canadian clinics should ask about French, Canadian procedure codes and where audio is processed.

Where Cognizdent fits

Cognizdent is an agentic voice and virtual assistant for Canadian dental clinics. It prepares drafts for the front desk, the clinical team, patients and insurance claims, in English and French, and a person approves every note and every claim. Speech recognition and AI run on a computer in the clinic; cloud processing is a fallback used only with the patient's consent.

Its limits matter as much:
